Chatenay Wins by Acclamation

(October 26, 2004 - FFJ) For the first time since 1998, a Canadian Wheat Board election in District 2 will not be necessary.  Jim Chatenay, incumbent director, was declared elected by acclamation.

"It's a show of approval," said Chatenay from his home in Alberta.  "The voters in my district are pleased with my mandate for an open market, and I take this as a sign to continue fighting for change."

This is the first time the CWB has elected a director by acclamation since the farmer director elections began in 1998.  This show of support brings renewed hope to Open Market supporters that change is indeed possible.

"We could not be more pleased with the results," said Colleen Bianchi of Canadian Farmers for Justice.  "Mr. Chatenay has maintained the same philosophy he had when he was first elected, and I think the voters in District 2 are appreciative of that kind of integrity."

Jim Chatenay was first elected to the CWB Board of Directors in 1998.  He ran on a platform of Open Market and has remained steadfast in that desire since.

"I just have to to say 'thank you' to the voters of District 2.  They have given me a huge responsibility, and I will continue to fight for the changes they have expressed," said Chatenay.
