When Will the Grassroots Wake Up?

(June 27, 2003 - FFJ)    As all Canadians are well aware, the BSE (Mad Cow) issue is devastating to all involved.  The situation is more than serious.  Feedlots and operators are sitting with animals still needing to be fed, costing dollars and not able to be sold or moved - and at what price?  At a loss?

Truckers are sitting, fuel agents aren't selling fuel, meat packers are down or running at bare bones operations, auction markets are not selling cattle, diners & cafes are not selling truckers meals, etc. etc.  It's very noticeable - there are no 18-wheelers on the highways.

Grain producers are getting less for their grain, having a difficult time moving the grain off the farm!  Value adding with cereal grains isn't happening, rural communities are suffering a slow death, and the BSE problem is speeding that demise up.

How long can everyone hold on??

When has the grassroots had enough?

When will the average 'Joe' get fed up?

When will the person 'on the street' see what's happening?

Will a time come when everyone will finally say, "I'm NOT going to take this anymore!'

Canada cannot continue like this: we all need to ban together, and that time is now.

People aren't aware of the job spin offs in the Agriculture Industry.  One farm operation can provide 30 jobs, from the kid who pumps his gas at the fuel depot, to the clerk who packs his groceries.  This is no longer a 'farmers' issue - this is a country's issue.

If you or your organization are ready to stand up, join us.  Let's fix this together.  Farmers have stood up, feedlot operators have stood up, truckers have stood up - now we need to stand up together.

Time is running short, for many, many people.  The grassroots are hurting.  Tell your government "Enough is Enough!"

Contact us at webmaster@farmersforjustice.com and join a coalition of Canadians.  Add your voice to the many speaking, and make that combined voice loud and clear:

WE WILL NOT STAY SILENT ANY LONGER.  WE DEMAND TO BE INCLUDED IN FINDING SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS WE FACE.  WE DEMAND TO BE HEARD.
